The English Literature Study Program carried out community service activities in Lima Puluh Kota, inspiring students at SMPN 4 Harau to learn English and sharing kindness through donations at Muhammadiyah Orphanage Guguak II./span>

Lima Puluh Kota, October 11–12, 2025 — The English Literature Study Program of Universitas Andalas carried out a series of Community Service activities on October 11–12, 2025, as part of the program’s ongoing commitment to education, social awareness, and community engagement.
The two-day event took place at SMPN 4 Kecamatan Harau on Saturday, October 11, and at Panti Asuhan Muhammadiyah Cabang Guguak II on Sunday, October 12, 2025. The activities were led by lecturers of the English Literature Study Program, who worked together to share knowledge, inspiration, and care with the local community.
At SMPN 4 Harau, the session focused on motivating junior high school students to learn English and pursue their dreams. The motivational talk was delivered by Diah Tyahaya Iman, lecturer at the English Literature Study Program, who encouraged students to believe in their potential and view English as a valuable skill for future success. The session also featured interactive English games, storytelling, and sharing sessions that made the atmosphere lively and inspiring. Students enthusiastically participated and expressed their excitement about learning English.

The following day, the team visited the Muhammadiyah Orphanage Guguak II, where they carried out a charity and sharing activity. The lecturers donated essential items such as rice, cooking oil, milk, and other daily necessities to support the welfare of the children. The visit also included a short interactive session filled with stories, laughter, and encouragement, creating a warm and memorable experience for everyone involved.
“Community service is not only about giving, but also about learning from the people we meet,” said one of the lecturers. “Through these activities, we hope to inspire students to dream big, while reminding ourselves that compassion and knowledge go hand in hand.”

The community warmly welcomed the presence of the English Literature team, expressing gratitude for their time and contributions. Both institutions conveyed their hope for future collaborations that could further support education and social development in the area.
